Why choose Hands Together Piano Studio?

Home

There are many piano studios offering classical piano lessons. What is special and unique about Cheryl Woodford and Hands Together Piano Studio?

I am a dedicated and caring teacher with a lifetime of experience playing and teaching piano. I have taken lessons most of my life and always strive to play and teach better. My style is down to earth, flexible and challenging. I want students to enjoy lessons and the songs they are learning, so they will stick with piano and have all the benefits that playing piano brings. The greatest feeling is when my students leave their lessons smiling! I want students to have all the skills they need to be great piano players and be able to play whatever they like. There is an astonishing variety of excellent piano music, and students are given choices of pieces to learn. I am happy to help students learn music for school or church.

Besides wanting students to  enjoy playing piano, my specific goals for students are to read music fluently, to play easily with solid technique, to have a good understanding of music theory, and to be comfortable playing for others. Occasional group classes during the school year support and encourage students to play comfortably in a group setting.

I request that parents of young children attend and observe lessons for at least a year or two. Steady progress for children requires supportive parents, a willing student, and a compatible teacher.

One of my former students now has her own music school. Another received a full scholarship to study music education at college and is a full time music teacher. Another student is the pianist for his high school jazz band. Many students play additional instruments – violin, cello, saxophone, drums, flute, and ukulele.

I also love teaching adult students. Some have returned to piano after playing as a child. Some have started from scratch, even in their 50’s and 60’s. The youngest student I ever taught was 3 and the oldest was 85.
