Simply Music Piano Lessons

Simply Music is a brilliant piano and keyboard learning method that offers a unique approach to music education and produces outstanding results.

Simply Music’s unique way of learning completely redefines what it means to learn piano, and has students of all ages playing great-sounding blues, contemporary, classical and accompaniment pieces - immediately - from their very first lessons.

The fundamental goal of the Simply Music program is to maximize the likelihood of students acquiring and retaining music as a lifelong companion.

As a part of this fundamental goal, there are four specific goals that our program and methodology are centered around. Our aim is for students to:
Experience their musicianship as a natural self-expression.
Play repertoire that covers a broad range of musical styles.
Develop the ability to progress independently.
Have a highly positive, self-affirming experience throughout the music learning process.

How is Simply Music different than traditional piano lessons?

Piano teachers traditionally use music reading as a way of teaching beginning students to play. This means learning note names at the same time as learning rhythm, finger numbers and technique. Many beginners find this difficult.  Students may lose interest and quit lessons before they can read music or play the piano well.

In contrast, Simply Music temporarily delays music reading until students can play a variety of songs – blues, classical, contemporary and accompaniment – all without notes!

Students are taught songs directly onto the keys in a way that is natural and easy to understand. Students of all ages experience the satisfaction of playing great-sounding songs from the very beginning, and are motivated to continue playing and learning.

This play first, read later approach is similar to the development of our language skills. Babies are immersed in their native language from birth. Young children already speak fluently before learning to read.  This enables them to understand the words they read in books.

Similarly, Simply Music students are taught basic playing skills before they learn to read music.  When the time is right, during the first year of lessons, students progress naturally into reading notes.  Developing musical skills in this way offers great chance for success - for acquiring and retaining music as a companion for a lifetime.  Students have fun and feel great about learning to play the piano!
